At Hartland High School, student leadership is a powerful way to build community, fostering a deep sense of belonging that supports attendance, engagement, and personal pride. Stepping into a leadership role gives pupils a shared purpose, encouraging collaboration across year groups to strengthen our school community.

Through specialised roles, our Year 10 and Year 12 cohorts lead by example, gaining the essential experience needed to stand out on applications for top universities, apprenticeships, and future employment.

Student Leadership Specialisms

Alongside baseline responsibilities—such as supporting positive behaviour, assisting with duty spots, and representing the school at open evenings—our leaders opt into key specialist areas:

• Head Students: Lead the broader student leadership team, deliver speeches at formal events, co-chair student voice forums, and meet with school Governors to represent the pupil experience.

• Student Voice Leaders: Gather peer feedback during social times and work directly with the Headteacher in strategic termly meetings to shape school-wide improvements.

• Academic Leaders: Run the quiet lunchtime homework support hub in room B15, mentoring younger pupils with classwork and academic organisation skills.

• Sports Leaders: Support lunchtime sports, spearhead enrichment fayres to boost club participation, and lead sports ambassadors across all year groups.

•  Community Outreach Leaders: Drive primary school outreach initiatives, support our transition programme, and welcome families during Open Evenings.
